Get lower Airport Parking Fees For Your Next Flight
We all know how expensive airport parking can be. I live in Sydney and this is my experience with Sydney airport parking fees. I hope you find it useful in your city.
Traditionally we would drive to the airport and park in the airport parking facility. There was a boom gate at the entrance and you would take a ticket and place it on the dashboard while you were away. Then you would take your luggage from the car and carry it to the airport terminal.
Upon return, you would walk with your luggage to the car and drive to the exit. Once there, you would pay for your parking fees to the attendant.
This was the only option unless you caught a cab, bus or train. In our case the train came much later.
Your Airport Parking Options Today
As you know, over time the cost of parking at the airports became so expensive that new options began to emerge. This is certainly the case with Sydney airport parking. So let me explain some of the options today.
Before going into the new options, I should say that most airports still offer on-site parking today. In fact the facilities have become more sophisticated and in many cased, multi-level facilities are now available. However, you still have to carry your luggage to the terminal (although there have been advances in that area too which make it easier these days).
One of the most common options today is the off-site aorport parking facilities. What I mean is innovative businesses have emerged in locations close to the airports where you can drive your car and park for a lower fee than the airport itself. This is how it works...
When you have a flight to take, you drive your car to the off-site airport parking facility. You will probably have arranged parking before so the service provider is expecting you. When you arrive, you remove your luggage and someone takes your keys and parks your car for you. Your luggage is transferred to a shuttle service or a dedicated transfer vehicle and you are transferred to the airport terminal.
When you return, you are either met at the airport by the trandfer vehicle or you wait for the shuttle to do it's rounds. When you arrive back at the parking facility, you transfer your luggage to your car and away you go.
Extra Services Offered
There are often many additional services offered by off-site airport parking provider. Nearly all the Sydney airport parking providers offer these services. They include:
- Undercover parking or open air parking. Undercover parking attracts a higher fee.
- Twenty four hour security including patrolled guards and CCTV.
- Car wash - you can have your car washed so that it's clean for the day you arrive
- Car servicing - you can have a mechanic service your car before you return.
Some offer even more services but I won't go into those here.
Pro's and Cons of Off Site Services
There are some very good reasons to opt for an off-site airport parking service. These include:
- Lower airport parking fees - This is the main reason a market energed for these providers and it's a bonus for travelers.
- Convenient transfers - most people don't realise how convenient these services are. For example, when you arrive at the airport terminal, you are dropped outside the front door. So you don't have to walk far to checkin. On-site parking facilities still require that you walk to the terminal and this can be a long way.
- Extra services on offer - as mentioned above, you have access to some very convenient services.
There are also some very good online services offering online parking quotes.
Here's an example of airport parking fees in Hong Kong.
In Summary
When you are next considering flying, whether international or domestic, consider the alternatives. Perhaps try one of the new off-site parking providers like the ones offering Sydney airport parking fees in my city.
